  • Johnny Clegg Kirstenbosch Concert

    Head to Kirstenbosch to see an icon of South African music
    Summer’s here and with it the promise of lazy Sunday afternoons enjoying the Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts at Kirstenbosch. Johnny Clegg will be taking the stage to give the audience a concert of note in true Clegg tradition with his own brand of South African music. Energetic and passionate, Clegg is one of South Africa’s greatest exports and, as maestro of rock, he has been delighting audiences for over 30 years playing to sold out concerts globally. He appears regularly at the annual 46664 concert honouring Nelson Mandela. Enjoy this concert and be part of the “Scatterlings of Africa” as Clegg’s blend of Zulu and English delights the audience.   • Solms Delta Summer Concert Series

    Don’t miss an evening at the Solms-Delta and Die Burger Saturday Summer Concerts
    The season of outdoor live concerts set in the beautiful Franschhoek Winelands, is part of the Music van de Caab Music Project and brings together a feast of rural Cape food, music and dance each Saturday evening from 14 January to 10 March 2012.
    Enjoy a glass of Solms-Delta wine, a hearty Fyndraai Kaapse Braai Buffet and listen to the likes of Hannes Coetzee, Les Javan, Hot Water, Tribal Echo, House of Davids and Pieter van der Westhuizen.     We heard it on the grapevine – sweeten up with Hanepoot grapes and wines with bling
    During the months of February and March, De Krans Wine Cellar, situated in the quaint little town of Calitzdorp alongside the well known Route 62, will once again offer visitors to the area the opportunity to pick deliciously sweet Hanepoot grapes. This fun-filled picking experience will take place from 8 February to 3 March 2012, and will be made available every day (except Sundays) from 08:00 until 16:00.
    Grapes cost R4.90/kg and visitors are welcome to bring their own containers. Alternatively containers can be purchased at De Krans at a minimal cost.

    Afrikaans opera performance under the stars for Oude Libertas Amphitheatre
    Determined to preserve the rich tradition of opera, South African diva Mimi Coertse and celebrated opera director, Neels Hansen, established the Black Tie Ensemble in March 1999. They have grown from humble beginnings to emerge as possibly the most exciting ensemble, regularly performing classical music in Gauteng.
    For the first time Gabriella’s Song (As it is in Heaven), especially translated into Afrikaans, will form part of their repertoire along with other Afrikaans favourites Karoonag, Kinders van die Wind, Heimwee and Oktobermaand. The concert will be in honour of Diva Mimi Coertse who is celebrating her 80th Birthday.

    The sound waves are sizzling at beautiful Backsberg this summer!There is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than relaxing in the sun with a glass of fine wine as brilliant artists entertain you. Freshly Ground, Francois van Coke, Koos Kombuis, Dan Patlansky and many others will have you tapping your toes to their awesome acoustic vibes. There is a slight twist with the series this year as each of the performers will be bringing an up-and-coming artist with them to open the gig. The series runs in two parts this year – the first five gigs take place every Sunday from 20 November to 18 December 2011; the second five, also on Sundays, run from 22 January to 13 February 2012.     Art in Public Spaces puts Cape Town in the spotlight for March 2012
    The Africa Centre’s Infecting The City Public Arts Festival will explode onto the streets and public spaces of Cape Town for the fifth time from 5 to 10 March 2012.
    Infecting The City is the largest and most diverse annual public arts festival on the African continent. This year, celebrated local and international artists will create artworks that unwrap and unlock the communal spaces in the Cape Town City Centre. The art will encourage audiences to see, hear and smell the extraordinary by taking a fresh look at the Mother City, its citizens, and themselves in radically different ways. Prepare to see Cape Town in a whole new light.

  • Absa Cape Epic 2012

    The magical and untamed African mountain bike race is back!
    Over 1 200 of the toughest and most determined or just plain crazy mountain bike competitors will be slogging through dirt for eight days – and they don’t scare easy.
    The new route of the ninth Absa Cape Epic will be as exciting and challenging as previous years. Local and international riders will be cranking their pedals for the demanding eight-day adventure of 780 km with 16 300 m of climbing from the start at Durbanville.
    With its exhilarating landscapes, the stage locations of Robertson, Caledon and Oak Valley await the most prestigious mountain bike stage race in the world, before riders again finish at the Lourensford Wine Estate.

  • Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2012

    This year’s event promises to be as vibrant and smooth, multi-cultural and global as ever. The Mother City will celebrate the 13th explosion of jazz this March when the Cape Town International Jazz Festival brings loyal and new fans exhilarating world-class music.
    The Cape Town International Jazz Festival’s winning formula of bringing more than 40 African artists to perform over two days has earned it the status of being the most prestigious jazz event on the African continent. And it keeps getting bigger with attendance figures over the last 12 years swelling from 14 000 to 34 000. Melodytrip ranked this ‘Proudly South African’ event as Number 4 in the world, eclipsing events such as the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland and Switzerland’s Montreaux Festival.
